Paediatric Foot and Ankle Clinic
Supporting Steady Steps and Optimising Movement
We run a joint Physiotherapy and Podiatry Clinic to support children to get the best treatment outcome for lower limb concerns such as Toe Walking, foot pain, and complex foot biomechanics.
Physiotherapy and Podiatry, working together
Children’s feet require holistic care. That’s why at our clinic, children’s feet are assessed by both a paediatric physiotherapists and podiatrist. We want to assess how your child walks, runs and moves to find the best treatment plan involving a combination of exercises, footwear advice and orthotics when needed.
Collaborative Care for Growing Feet, Ensuring the Best Possible Outcomes!
Our physiotherapists and podiatrists assess the structure of your child’s feet, including assessing for common conditions such as flat feet, arch issues, or toe walking. This helps us determine if your child’s foot structure is developing as expected and to help us determine the best treatment strategy moving forward. Our goal is for all children to be moving at their best and to support children to move efficiently, pain-free and without limitations.
What Paediatric Foot Conditions do we see?
Collaborative Treatment for Complex Feet
The goal of our combined clinic is to support children to get the best outcome, the first time. We’ve seen children who have experienced years of pain, discomfort and dysfunction who have had treatment from several health professionals, including physiotherapists and podiatrists. Our joint clinic is specifically designed to have both professionals in the same room at the same time to assess and collaborate to determine the best treatment plan for your child.
Footwear and Biomechanics:
The right footwear plays a crucial role in your child’s development. We provide recommendations on the best footwear for your child’s foot type and any special considerations that may help with comfort or performance.
Stretches and Strengthening:
Our therapists provide exercises to increase muscle length and strength to ensure that your child can improve stability and function.
Gait Retraining and Movement Advice:
We assess how your child walks, runs, and moves, looking for signs of inefficiency or abnormal movement that could lead to discomfort or long-term issues.
Orthotic Prescription:
Orthotic support can look different for every child to ensure they have appropriate support for their growing foot. Orthotics can be as simple as an off-the-shelf insole, a custom device, a supramalleolar Orthosis (SMO) or Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO).

We see children when growth or the structural differences in children impact injury or rehabilitation (usually from birth to around 14/15 years). When children injure themselves during sport, sometimes growth can complicate their progress or impact the treatment plan. If this is the case, we recommend seeing a paediatric physiotherapist.
If the injury occurs in high-level sport AND growth isn’t an impacting factor, we recommend seeing either a paediatric physiotherapist or an adult therapist – whatever is most convenient.
